Gone extinct
This section simply lists famous companies or industries that once dominated and have all but gone extinct since, often in dramatic fashion:
- Print media (Newsweek print edition, News of the World, etc.)
- Fuller Brushes, the company that started and symbolised door to door sales
- PanAm and TWA airlines, who fell to plane crashes and the commoditization of air travel
- Kodak and Polaroid, once icons in photography, who failed in the transition to digital
- F.W. Woolworth, who fell to the transitiion from Main Street to the shopping mall era
- Tower Records, who fell from the rise of digital music, both legal and otherwise
- Circuit City, who fell to online retailer like Amazon.com
- Blockbuster Video, who fell to online downloads and on-demand videos
